Questions manufacturers ask

Straight answers for aerospace companies

  • We are a small parts supplier. Do we really need aviation-specific coverage?

Yes, because standard policies exclude most aviation exposures. If your component is installed on an aircraft or used in conjunction with aircraft, you need aviation products liability. JCL can source scalable limits appropriate for smaller business.

  • Our customer requires we carry a 25 million limit of liability. Are those limits available?

Yes, depending on product criticality.  Some carriers may offer limits on a 100% basis, while others may only want to take a portion of the risk.

  • What if a claim surfaces years after production?

Most aviation product liability policies are written on an occurrence basis.  A current policy could cover a recent incident regardless of when the product was manufactured.

  • Do defense costs effect our overall policy limit?

Usually not, most aviation policies provide defense costs in addition to the limit of liability.  This is considered a benefit under this type of policy.  The defense terms should be checked before coverage is bound to ensure the most comprehensive coverage.
